TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Yonex Taipei Open badminton tournament concluded on Sunday, Mother’s Day, with Taiwan’s women’s doubles team of Hsieh Pei-shan (謝沛珊) and Hung En-tzu (洪恩慈) taking home the championship.
The Taiwanese pair, ranked 13th in the world, defeated Japanese opponents Otake Mochizuki and Takahashi Miyu, who were ranked 34th, in straight sets, 21-14, 21-15. The win marked the first time in 17 years that a local women's doubles team has won the Taipei Open title and the first Super 300 series win for Hsieh and Hung, per China Times.

A large crowd filled Taipei Arena to support the home team, waving signboards and cheering loudly after each point. The atmosphere clearly energized the Taiwan duo, who capitalized on the momentum throughout the match.
Taiwan’s last victory in this category came from Chien Yu-chin (簡毓瑾) and Cheng Wen-hsing (程文欣), who won titles in 2004, 2005, 2007, and 2008. Since then, no Taiwanese pair had reached the finals until now.
In the first set, Hsieh and Hung pulled away from a 4-4 tie by winning five consecutive points. In the second set, after falling behind 1-2, they again surged with a five-point run.
The Japanese pair fought back after the technical timeout and briefly led 13-12 and 14-13. But the Taiwanese team responded with seven straight points to close out the match and seal the title.
