TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) shared a message on social media Sunday expressing gratitude for mothers in Taiwan and around the world.
In his Mother’s Day message, Lai encouraged everyone to cherish their mother’s love and companionship throughout life. He said that as more households depend on dual incomes, the government will continue expanding childcare services to ease the financial burden on families.
Lai added that traditional gender roles around parenting and household responsibilities are increasingly outdated. With the rising cost of living and smaller family sizes, both parents often must work to support their families.
He highlighted Taiwan’s parental leave policies, which allow both parents to take up to two years of paid leave, and reaffirmed his commitment to increasing childcare subsidies and expanding support programs.
To ensure a prosperous and sustainable society for future generations, Lai said Taiwan must foster a social environment that prioritizes childcare and education.
He concluded his message by wishing all mothers good health and a peaceful, happy Mother’s Day.
