TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) departed Friday for a diplomatic visit to Denmark where she will speak at the eighth Copenhagen Democracy Summit.
Invited by the Alliance of Democracies Foundation, she will address global leaders and advocates of democracy after first stopping in Lithuania, per CNA.
“This trip has a simple but important purpose,” Tsai said in a Facebook post. “It is to affirm that Taiwan will continue working with democratic partners to jointly ensure regional security and stability.”
“We also hope to continue building economic resilience together with Europe and remain a reliable international partner,” she added.
Tsai explained that her itinerary includes visiting Lithuania, to strengthen Taiwan-Europe relations, per UDN. During her visit to the Baltic country, she will meet with local friends, deliver a speech at Vilnius University, and speak with former Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite.
“Most importantly, I will share the Taiwanese people’s commitment to freedom and democracy, and their determination to protect their homeland,” she said.
