TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A handbag containing a record NT$4 million (US$132,000) lost by a Vietnamese man surnamed Ho (胡) was found on a train in Tainan.
It was the largest cash loss by a passenger in the history of Taiwan's railways, per Liberty Times.
At around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Taiwan Railway Corporation received a report that a passenger had lost a large sum of money on board a train, per reports. An investigation revealed that Ho took train No. 3258 from Zhongzhou Station in Tainan's Rende District heading north.
When Ho got off at Tainan Station in the city's East District, he left behind a black handbag containing the cash. When he realized, he went to the service counter at Tainan Station to seek assistance.
Upon receiving the report, a Taiwan Railways train conductor searched the train and found a bag matching Ho’s description in the passageway between two carriages.
The train arrived at Xinying Station in Tainan's Xinying District at 8:55 p.m. The conductor handed over the bag to the station. Police confirmed the bag contained approximately NT$4 million in cash and reviewed surveillance footage to verify the source and legitimacy of the funds.
Ho has been contacted and is scheduled to retrieve the money on Thursday evening.
