TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taiwan Excellence Drone International Business Opportunities Alliance (TEDIBOA) led a delegation of eight Taiwanese drone, ICT, and aerospace companies to visit Estonia on Monday and Tuesday.
The alliance signed two MOUs with the Estonian Defence and Aerospace Industry Association and the Estonian Aviation Cluster. Taiwan Representative to Latvia Andrew H.C. Lee (李憲章), Estonia-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group Chair Kristo Enn Vaga, and Estonian lawmaker Kalle Laanet were at the signing, per CNA.
Lee said the agreements symbolize deepening collaboration between Taiwan and Estonia in the defense sector and reflect a broader effort among democratic nations to strengthen industrial partnerships. He added that the two countries have complementary economic and industrial structures, offering strong potential for future cooperation.
Lee said that as Russia continues its war in Ukraine and China increases military pressure on Taiwan, closer economic ties between Taiwan and Estonia can create a win-win partnership and support regional peace and stability.
Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation and TEDIBOA Chair Hu Kai-hong (胡開宏) said the defense industry cooperation between Taiwan and Estonia began in November when an Estonian delegation joined the Taiwan–Latvia–Estonia Business Matchmaking event hosted by Taiwan’s Representative Office in Latvia. AIDC also signed an agreement with the Latvian Defense and Security Industry Alliance to foster cooperation in the drone sector.
In February, an Estonian defense industry delegation visited Taiwan to enhance cooperation in the drone and defense sectors. The delegation explored the nation's technological capabilities and met with local drone manufacturers. It also toured the Asia Drone AI Innovation Application R&D Center in Chiayi
Hu said the alliance’s visit to Estonia is its first and is a follow-up to help deepen collaboration between the two countries.
Estonian Defence and Aerospace Industry Association CEO Kalev Koidumae said the February visit helped Estonia better understand Taiwan’s economic and industrial strengths. Andy Viikmaa, an Estonian Aviation Cluster board member, expressed hope to strengthen bilateral cooperation and build a non-red supply chain.
