TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Discovery Channel will premiere the documentary "Taiwan Revealed: AI Technology Island" on Friday at 10 p.m., broadcasting to 19 countries throughout Asia.
Following the broadcast, the documentary will be available on Discovery’s YouTube platform beginning on May 22. Viewers will get an in-depth look at Taiwan’s key role in the AI supply chain, everything from semiconductors to servers and software development, per a press release.
The documentary shows Taiwan pioneering new technology through collaborations between the public and private sectors. This cooperation is shown in upstream chip design to midstream process technology breakthroughs, and even downstream hardware and software integration services.
Through the lens of filmmakers, technological revolutions such as new nanometer technology are explored, enabling Taiwan to leap from an industry follower to a global leader. Three cases are highlighted in the documentary: AI inspection of solar panels, AI medical technology for citizens of Palau, and Czech students receiving training in chip production.
The documentary shows how Taiwan is sharing AI technology with diplomatic allies. Through substantive exchange with friendly nations, Taiwan is conducting a form of high-tech foreign diplomacy.
"Taiwan Revealed: AI Technology Island" shows that Taiwan-made chips power everything from cell phones to data centers and AI supercomputers. The documentary shows the human side of AI innovation, meeting the scientists and engineers who are powering the next technological revolution.
Since 2011, MOFA has cooperated with the Discovery Channel to produce seven documentaries. Each documentary has been well-received and recognized by the general public in Taiwan and abroad.
In 2023, the documentary "Celebrity Chefs: Taste of Taiwan," a co-production between the Discovery Channel and MOFA, won the "Best Non-English Program, Series, or Film" and "Best Asian Program" at the 16th Taste Awards in the US in March.
The documentary also used the latest AI technology to introduce Taiwan's development and achievements in related AI fields. By watching the documentary, audiences around the world will be given insight into Taiwan's key influence on the development of AI.
