TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Finance Minister Chuang Tsui-yun (莊翠雲) objected to Taiwan's designation as "Taipei, China" at the Asian Development Bank on Tuesday.
During the ADB's annual meeting from May 4-7, Chuang urged the organization to correct Taiwan’s designation in her speech, per CNA. Chuang pointed out that Taiwan was one of the founding members of the ADB. When China joined the ADB in 1986, Taiwan’s designation was changed to "Taipei, China.”
This week, Chuang also exchanged views with ADB officials to expand Taiwan's diplomacy and opportunities for international cooperation, Taiwan’s finance ministry reported. Chuang also raised the issue of Taiwan's designation at a meeting with ADB President Masato Kanda.
Chuang noted Taiwan's support of the ADB’s principles and willingness to share its knowledge with member nations. As of December, Taiwan had provided US$1.51 billion (NT$46.06 billion) in capital subscriptions and committed US$133.43 million to special funds since the ADB’s establishment, according to the bank’s reports.
