TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Water Corp. said Monday that some areas in New Taipei and Taoyuan will experience a water outage from the morning of May 19 to the morning of May 20.
The water suspension in New Taipei will affect all of Linkou District and several neighborhoods in Taishan and Wugu Districts. The company estimates that nearly 65,000 households in these areas will be impacted, per CNA.
In Taoyuan, the water outage is set to affect Guishan, Luzhu, Dayuan, Taoyuan, and Bade Districts. According to the city’s Economic Development Department, around 270,000 households in these districts will be impacted.
The water company said the measure is necessary to inspect electrical equipment and carry out five other related projects at a water supply plant in Taoyuan District. It emphasized the work is intended to enhance pipeline and equipment safety.
New Taipei’s Water Resources Department said that it will urge Taiwan Water Corp. to expedite the necessary work to minimize inconvenience. The department added that it will also collaborate with the company to set up 13 temporary water supply stations and deploy water trucks to assist affected residents.
Taoyuan City Government plans to establish a response center during the water outage. The agency said the locations of 31 temporary water supply stations would be released on Monday, and backup water wells would be accessible during the disruption.
Taoyuan’s Economic Development Department added that it will require the company to provide details regarding the inspection work, the anticipated completion time for each area, and the steps for restoring water service. This will enable the city government to track the progress of the work.
The company reminded the public to finish storing water at least six hours before the outage is scheduled to begin. It also advised residents to turn off their water pumps during the period to prevent the motors from overheating and potentially causing a fire.
