TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) conducted recruitment examinations for new employees on Sunday in Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Hualien.
The recruitment process includes a written test followed by subsequent assessments. Nearly 12,000 individuals registered this year, competing for 1,084 available positions. A total of 6,882 candidates appeared for the exam, per CNA.
Taipower said the list of candidates advancing to the second round will be released on July 15, with the next phase scheduled for Aug. 5. Successful candidates who complete one year of training will receive a starting monthly salary of about NT$36,000 (US$1,150).
The company added that certified electricians or those assigned to power grid maintenance could earn up to NT$40,000 monthly.
The recruitment examination was launched in response to a wave of employee retirements and to support Taipower’s transition toward net-zero emissions, the company said.
The most sought-after category was power distribution and line maintenance, with 1,800 applicants vying for 489 openings. The accounting category was highly competitive, with 214 candidates competing for three positions. Around 6,000 applicants sought 108 administrative openings, including 32 positions reserved for individuals with disabilities.
To prevent cheating, Taipower enlisted the help of the National Communications Commission to monitor for abnormal radio signals and detect unauthorized electronic devices.
The company added that on-site positions require technical skills and physical strength. Reflecting this requirement, the second phase of the assessment will include physical tests, practical exercises, and oral interviews.
Chunghwa Post Co. also held its recruitment exam on Sunday, with around 15,000 people registered. Approximately 12,000 candidates showed up to compete for 1,100 openings.
