TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Four young Vietnamese residents were found dead in Taoyuan on Saturday night, with carbon monoxide poisoning suspected as the cause.
A friend discovered the bodies at a rental property in Yangmei District after not hearing from the group for several days. Investigators believe the deaths occurred earlier in the week, per UDN.
The victims were two men and two women in their twenties. The men, aged 23 and 27, were migrant workers who had left their designated employment.
The women, aged 20 and 24, were in Taiwan on student visas. The older woman reportedly held a student work permit, while the younger was enrolled full-time.
Reports indicate the women had joined the men at the apartment for a gathering during the week. When police and firefighters arrived, they noted a strong odor and found the hot water still running in the bathroom.
Police said carbon monoxide poisoning is the likely cause of death, but an investigation is ongoing. Autopsies will be conducted, and authorities will review surveillance footage to determine if anyone else visited the apartment, per CNA.
