TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A Vietjet Air flight on its way from Seoul in South Korea to Da Nang in Vietnam made an unscheduled landing in Kaohsiung Saturday morning.
Flight VJ881 had taken off from the South Korean capital at 6 a.m., with its arrival in Vietnam scheduled for after 8 a.m., per UDN. However, at 7:53 a.m., the pilot asked Kaohsiung’s Xiaogang Airport for permission to land.
The airplane arrived at 8:17 a.m. with all 228 passengers safe. Most of them were transferred to flights for Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, but 70 travelers had been offered accommodation in Kaohsiung before another flight would be scheduled for Sunday.
The airline said Saturday evening that a crack had been found in a window, possibly due to damage by an object. In order to guarantee the safety of passengers and crew, the pilot had decided to land in Taiwan.
