TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung’s Agriculture Bureau is increasing fruit exports to Canada, generating over NT$10 million (US$324,000) in export value through supermarket tastings and educational events.
The bureau said in a press release that its sales team met with major Canadian supermarket chains to negotiate procurement and promotional activities, per CNA. Officials explained that Kaohsiung has long cultivated the Canadian market with incentive programs, making it a key exporter of guava, jujubes, and dragon fruit to the country.
In addition, the promotion team introduced canned taro from Jiaxian Farmers’ Association and organic jams from Chen Jiah Juang on the shelves of Kuohua supermarket, Canada’s leading Taiwanese food retailer, per Yam News. Special product displays have increased the visibility of Kaohsiung’s agricultural goods.
To familiarize Canadian consumers with the quality of Kaohsiung’s fruits, the bureau held three days of tastings for red heart and pearl guava at other major Canadian supermarket chains this week.
Traders noted that tasting events boost purchases. To sustain long-term growth, the bureau is considering making promotional campaigns annual to increase market share.
In response to recent US tariffs impacting Kaohsiung’s edamame exports, the bureau is also promoting edamame from Kaohsiung’s Bai Hsien Farm to help local producers expand their market and offset tariff-related pressures.
