TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese server contract manufacturer Wiwynn announced Thursday its purchase of land and buildings in Socorro, Texas to expand its US footprint.
The deal, valued at about NT$1.9 billion (US$59.59 million), marks a major step toward establishing its first US-based production facility under its subsidiary WYMUS, per CNA.
The Texas site covers roughly 392,000 square feet and includes warehouse and maintenance buildings. Wiwynn said it plans to convert these into production lines, aiming to start operations within three months.
Wiwynn currently operates its main overseas server production base in Mexico. The new Texas facility will be integrated with the existing plant to enhance North American manufacturing capabilities.
At a March investor conference, Wiwynn CFO Chen Chang-wei (陳昌偉) said the Texas facility is not intended to replace production in Mexico but to give customers diversified options and strengthen operational resilience, CNA reported.
Reports also suggest Wiwynn may bid for AMD’s AI server assembly plant in the US, aiming to leverage existing capacity to speed up its expansion, per UDN.
