TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – An Indigenous Defense Fighter jet fired off a flare by accident during a routine training flight near Tainan, the Air Force said Thursday.
The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon, the China Times reported. Flares are used to interfere with incoming enemy missiles and prevent them from hitting the jet.
The accident did not cause any damage or injury, and the jet immediately returned to base in Tainan without any further issues, the Air Force said. A team from the Air Force Command traveled to the base to investigate the incident.
Last month, two IDF jets had braking problems and a blown tire on separate occasions at Penghu’s Magong Airport. Taiwan has been flying 129 Indigenous Defense Fighters since 1992.
