TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) on Friday attended the 57th birthday celebrations of King Mswati III, the ruler of Eswatini, Taiwan’s only diplomatic ally in Africa.
King Mswati III, who leads the landlocked country bordered only by South Africa, has been a frequent visitor to Taiwan, often attending presidential inaugurations. During his trip, Lin also visited the Government Hospital in the capital, Mbabane, where he announced a donation of medical equipment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
Lin thanked Eswatini for its long-standing support of Taiwan at the annual World Health Assembly, where it has advocated for Taiwan’s participation in the global healthcare community. As part of Taiwan’s “Taiwan Can Help” initiative, Lin announced the donation of a computer tomography scanner, a patient monitor simulator, and fundus cameras to assist with eye health, the ministry said.
At the royal birthday celebrations, Lin also met with leading figures and former presidents from South Africa, Botswana, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
