TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Representative to the Netherlands Tien Chung-kwang (田中光) called for deeper bilateral exchanges in an opinion article published on Wednesday.
Tien said Taiwan-Netherlands relations date back more than 400 years and have yielded outstanding results in advanced technology, trade, and education, CNA reported.
He pointed out that TSMC is working closely with ASML, the leading Dutch semiconductor equipment company, to play a key role in the global chip supply chain. The Netherlands also plays an important role in promoting Europe’s "Semicon Coalition." Taiwan is happy to assist with this initiative and create a safer and more stable chip ecosystem, Tien said.
The representative thanked the Dutch House of Representatives for passing four pro-Taiwan resolutions last week. The motions underscored the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, urged enhanced economic and higher-level exchanges, and backed Taiwan's participation in the World Health Organization.
Since the two sides signed a working holiday agreement in 2019, many young Taiwanese have applied to go to the Netherlands annually, Tien said. He hoped that more young Dutch would travel to Taiwan for exchanges in the future to experience the vitality and tolerance of Taiwan’s society.
