TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The jobless rate increased to 3.35% in March, a rise of 0.01% from the previous month, the government said Tuesday.
Despite the increase, the result was still the lowest for the month in 25 years, per UDN. The impact of US tariffs on the employment market is likely to become visible during the second half of the year, according to officials.
The Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics said March unemployment stood at 3.36%, after taking seasonal factors into account. The figure amounted to a rise of 0.01% from February.
While the rate traditionally declined in March, this year, the impact of job changes following the Lunar New Year holiday has not ended yet, the directorate general said. An estimated 3,000 people have resigned because they were dissatisfied with their jobs, but some have not found other work yet.
The average unemployment rate over the first three months of the year stands at 3.33%, a decline of 0.03% compared to the same period in 2024. Officials said the job market is currently stable, with April usually showing a decline in unemployment rates.
