TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Penghu athletes Tsai Jing-hung (蔡靖宏) and Hsu Yi-ting (許宜婷) delivered strong performances at the 2025 Winter Special Olympics World Games, held in Turin, Italy, from March 8-15.
Tsai earned a silver medal in figure skating. Hsu and her teammates took bronze in the snowshoe relay, per CNA.
This year’s games brought together over 1,500 athletes from more than 100 countries, competing across eight sports, according to the Special Olympics.
Tsai, who has cerebral palsy, experiences limited mobility. Both Tsai and Hsu have encountered slower learning progress than their peers, but have continued to train and compete.
On Monday, Penghu County Magistrate Chen Kuang-fu (陳光復) presented congratulatory plaques to coach Kuo Jen-hsiang (郭仁祥) and the athletes in recognition of their efforts and achievements.
Chen said that the athletes’ performances reflect their commitment and perseverance. He expressed hope that the recognition would encourage them in future pursuits and inspire others to work toward their goals despite obstacles.
