TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A man fell onto the tracks of a Taiwan Railways Corporation (TRC) train at Banqiao Station in New Taipei on Monday.
At 12:58 p.m., the man, estimated to be around 30 years old, fell from Platform 2 for unknown reasons, per Ettoday. He landed on the tracks between cars 10 and 11 of the No. 2203 local train.
His legs were run over by the train, causing severe fractures. First responders found him pinned beneath the train and used specialized rescue equipment to free him.
The man was unconscious but still breathing and was rushed to the hospital.
Police reviewed surveillance footage and preliminarily ruled out foul play. Current assessments indicate the fall was accidental, per Liberty Times.
The TRC temporarily slowed both northbound and southbound trains and rerouted traffic to alternate tracks, causing delays. Normal operations have since resumed.
Passengers from train No. 2203 were guided to transfer to other services. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.
