TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Tourism Administration is holding a railway photography contest, with registration open from Monday through May 8.
The administration said the contest requires participants to create entries from a traveler's perspective, blending railway elements with tourist attractions. Submissions should capture the scenic beauty or cultural scenes along Taiwan’s railway lines, including high-speed rail, conventional rail, metro systems, and light rail, per CNA.
Participants can submit up to five digital photos taken between 2023 and May 8 of this year. Each entry must include a 50- to 100-word description explaining the story behind the image.
The administration said this year’s panel of judges is composed of experts in photography, tourism, and railways. Entries will be evaluated based on relevance to the theme, representation of railway culture, integration of tourism elements, and photographic technique.
The total prize pool for the contest will exceed NT$600,000 (US$18,500), the administration said. The grand prize is expected to include a two-day, one-night scenic train tour for two and a cash award of NT$50,000.
In addition to the top three prizes, the contest will award honorable mentions and merit prizes. All winners will also receive train models and scenic train tour experiences, and their entries will be exhibited domestically and internationally.
An exhibition on Taiwan's railway food culture was held in February at the Railway Museum in Japan. The exhibition recreated iconic Taiwan Railway dining cars and bento boxes and featured a documentary film showcasing the tradition of bento sales on station platforms.
