TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Scaffolding from an ongoing construction project outside National Taiwan University Hospital collapsed at approximately 8:32 a.m. Monday.
The multi-story scaffolding fell onto a nearby road, damaging one vehicle, but no one was hurt. The Taipei City Construction Management Office sent personnel to investigate and found that the site failed to maintain proper safety, with the construction company receiving a NT$90,000 (US$2,767) fine, per CNA.
Taipei City Police Department’s Zhongzheng First Precinct received a report of the incidents and dispatched personnel to control traffic. Relevant units of the Taipei City Government were also asked to assist.

Cheng Da-chuan (鄭大川), spokesman for the Construction Management Office, said the exterior wall of National Taiwan University Hospital was undergoing renovation. A preliminary investigation revealed that the scaffolding on Zhongshan South Road accidentally collapsed during the dismantling.
Cheng said the scaffolding collapse violated Article 63 63and Article 89 of the Building Act, leading to the fine. Labor inspectors also arrived to monitor cleanup operations.
