TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan is one of the top destinations in the world for female digital nomads, according to UK travel site Holidu.
Taipei ranked as the safest city globally for women working remotely abroad, based on data from over 200 cities compiled by the website Nomads.com. Kaohsiung also made the top 10, coming in seventh for its hospitable environment for female digital nomads.
Holidu reported that Taipei topped the list “by a landslide,” citing a welcoming environment for foreigners, strong community safety, and legislation protecting women’s rights.
Taiwan has made a concerted effort in recent years to attract foreign talent. According to Meet Global, the country’s vibrant culture, convenient urban centers, and natural beauty make it especially appealing to digital nomads.
In January, the National Development Council (NDC) launched a new digital nomad visa, allowing eligible applicants to stay in Taiwan for up to 180 days. After that period, nomads may apply to convert their stay into a regular work visa or an Employment Gold Card.
Earlier this month, the NDC proposed new measures that, if approved by the Cabinet, would allow qualified digital nomads to live and work in Taiwan for up to two years. Under the proposal, certain "foreign specialist professionals” may also become eligible for permanent residency after just one year.
