TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday presented the Friendship Medal of Diplomacy to Mayor Agnes Pottier-Dumas of Levallois-Perret, France, in recognition of her support for Taiwan’s Olympic and Paralympic teams.
According to the ministry, the mayor made two sports facilities in her town—located northwest of Paris on the right bank of the Seine—available to Taiwan’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes free of charge. The initiative was unanimously approved by the city council, and the local government also funded upgrades to the venues, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) said at the award ceremony.
Lin praised the mayor’s contribution, saying it helped Taiwan’s athletes perform well at the 2024 Paris Games. Taiwan secured two gold and five bronze medals at the Olympics, and added three silver and two bronze medals at the Paralympics.
He also noted that during the games, the Taiwanese flag was displayed at the entrances of the training venues alongside those of the US, Australia, and Canada, showcasing Taiwan’s presence on the world stage.
As part of her visit to Taiwan, Mayor Pottier-Dumas is also scheduled to sign a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Education.
