TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The assistant coach of the Taiwan Beer basketball team was expelled from the Super Basketball League on Friday because of an outburst during a game on April 5.
Assistant Coach Ha Hsiao-yuan (哈孝遠) faced a disciplinary committee of the Chinese Taipei Basketball Association on Sunday. The committee banned Ha from holding any position in the SBL or any other organization governed by the CTBA for a period of three years, reported UDN.
On April 5, Ha rejected a referee’s call in the fourth quarter, disrupting the game against Changhua Pauian BLL. After walking onto the court to challenge the referee, Ha ordered the Taiwan Beer players to return to the locker room.
With only six minutes left on the clock, officials declared that Taiwan Beer forfeited the match one minute after they left the court. The team had to pay a fine of NT$600,000 (US$18,116) or be barred from competition for the rest of the season.
At the hearing on Friday, the CTBA said Ha’s actions went against the league’s code of conduct and the spirit of sportsmanship. He will also be banned from entering venues where SBL games are held for the rest of the year.
Two other assistant coaches, Shang Wei-fan (尚韋帆) and Lin Chieh-he (林玠禾), who were also involved, were given written warnings. They allegedly used inappropriate language and kicked chairs during the incident.
