TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Army’s 564th Armored Brigade conducted a live-fire training exercise at the Southern Training Center in Tainan.
During the drill, troops carried out “concentrated fire” exercises with CM-11 tanks. It entailed simultaneously firing at the same target or area to maximize the effectiveness of the attack.
The tanks fired at both stationary and mobile targets while stopped and on the move, Military News Agency reported. Troops also faced unexpected situations to sharpen their response capabilities.
Brigade Commander Major General Kao said that successful tank gunnery requires strong teamwork and coordination. Accurate shooting can only be achieved through close cooperation among all personnel, he said.
The drill comes as Taiwan is conducting the computer simulation portion of Han Kuang 41. This year’s simulation has been increased to an unprecedented 14 days and considers different possible Chinese gray zone tactics.
Last week, China launched two days of large-scale joint exercises around Taiwan. The maneuvers focused on combat-readiness patrols and blockade operations.
