TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taipei District Prosecutors Office is investigating an aide to former Legislative Speaker You Si-kun (游錫堃) for allegedly receiving payments from Chinese intelligence agencies in exchange for confidential legislative documents.
On March 25, prosecutors ordered a search led by the Investigation Bureau. The suspect, surnamed Sheng (盛), was taken in for questioning, per CNA.
Sheng was later released on NT$200,000 (US$6,019) bail under the National Security Act. He is currently being electronically monitored.
Sources indicate that Sheng traveled to China around 2019, where he allegedly made contact with Chinese intelligence personnel. He is suspected of accepting payments in return for classified information.
Prosecutors have not disclosed the nature of the documents involved or the amount of money exchanged, citing the ongoing investigation and confidentiality rules.
