TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The National Immigration Agency is deporting a Chinese influencer on Tuesday after failing to heed Monday's deportation deadline.
The NIA said on Mar. 26 that two Chinese spouses, Enqi (恩綺) and Xiaowei (小微), must leave Taiwan by 11:59 p.m. on Monday for supporting a military invasion of Taiwan. Enqi departed from Songshan Airport at 6:35 p.m. on Monday, but Xiaowei failed to do so before the deadline, per CNA.
The NIA said Monday that Xiaowei, surnamed Chao (趙), would be deported under the law. Chao reportedly stayed at a location different from her official residence on Monday night and voluntarily reported to the NIA's Taipei City Specialized Operation Brigade around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday.
The NIA convened a deportation review meeting on Tuesday morning under Article 18 of the Cross-Strait Act. Agency representatives, relevant authorities, and academic experts at the meeting agreed that Chao should be deported, per CNA.
An afternoon flight was arranged for Chao. At around noon, she was seen being escorted by NIA officers at Taoyuan Airport.
The NIA reiterated that any actions openly advocating armed unification, invasion, or the elimination of Taiwan’s sovereignty will be dealt with strictly under the law.
Another Chinese influencer, Liu Zhenya (劉振亞), had her dependent residence permit revoked and was ordered to leave Taiwan after she voiced support for a Chinese invasion. Despite initially planning to defy the deportation order on Mar. 25, she left voluntarily that evening.
