TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Systex Corporation said Monday it is cooperating with the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau after receiving an anonymous ransom note.
According to sources, internal cybersecurity personnel confirmed a hacker attack, prompting the company to report the incident to bureau, per FTV. Preliminary investigations suggest that this incident may be linked to CrazyHunter, a hacker group known for recent attacks on Taiwanese medical institutions such as Mackay Memorial Hospital.
In response, Systex is working with the Investigation Bureau and has begun strengthening its cybersecurity systems, per Anue. The value of the ransom has not been made known.
Systex said it is also collaborating with both internal and external cybersecurity experts to trace the source of the attack, UDN reported. The company added that there has been no significant impact on its operations, according to CNA.
Separately, the company posted a notice on its homepage saying hackers had impersonated Systex to solicit loans or investments.
Additionally, the Taiwan Computer Emergency Response Team and Coordination Center (TWCERT/CC) recently warned that ransomware threats are escalating and that attack methods are becoming increasingly sophisticated.
TWCERT/CC said Taiwan has become a target for several hacker groups using ransomware to attack local businesses. Notable groups include CrazyHunter, Nightspire, and UAT-5918.
Founded in 1997, Systex is a leading IT service provider in Taiwan, employing approximately 4,700 people.
