TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A shooting in Pingtung City on March 17 left five people injured, and after 11 days on the run, three suspects have surrendered to police.
According to LTN, two adults surnamed Li (李) and one teenager surnamed Yang (楊) turned themselves in to authorities in Pingtung at 7 p.m. on Friday, handing over their weapons.
The suspects, employees of a tobacco and liquor supply store, were reportedly involved in a dispute with workers from a local IT company, triggered by an argument over a woman working as a prostitute, per CNA.
Police said the IT company employees allegedly smashed windows and vandalized the store, prompting the three suspects to retaliate. They reportedly opened fire on Ruiguang South Road, discharging 25 rounds and seriously injuring five people.
On Friday, the suspects handed over three firearms allegedly used in the attack: an MK 18 carbine, an XPA-12 Ermox shotgun, and a Quarter Circle 10 9mm AR pistol. Police have launched a broader investigation into the source of the illegal weapons.
The suspects face charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms, while one adult is facing additional charges related to prostitution and sexual assault. Authorities are still pursuing several accomplices believed to have been involved in the shooting, per CNA.
