TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Navy ship collided with a Chinese fishing boat that was operating off Taiwan's west coast on Thursday.
The Navy Command said that during a mission, the tank landing ship Chung Ho (LST-232) collided with a fishing boat registered in China called “Min Lien Yu 61756” at 12:38 a.m., per CNA. The incident occurred approximately 45 nautical miles (83 km) off the Port of Taichung, nine nautical miles outside restricted waters.
There were no reported injuries among the crew of either vessel. The Navy said the Chung Ho sustained damage but did not affect navigational safety.
The Navy said that after the incident, the Coast Guard dispatched the offshore patrol vessel Tamsui and patrol boat PP-10080 to assist and gather evidence. There will be an investigation to determine responsibility.
