TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Mainland Affairs Council on Friday said that if the comedian, TV show host, and singer Huang An (黃安) has a Chinese ID card, his citizenship will be revoked immediately.
Interior Minister Liu Shyh-fang (劉世芳) said Thursday that over 40 Taiwanese are under investigation for having Chinese IDs, with 14 having their household registrations revoked, per CNA. As a result, their National Health Insurance, ID cards, and passports will also be canceled. This means reinstating their Taiwan household registration will be difficult.
On Friday, reporters inquired about the number of Chinese spouses who have been investigated for making statements advocating China’s use of force to annex Taiwan. Liu responded the number fluctuates daily due to reports from different sources.
Regardless of whether the individuals are Chinese spouses or Taiwanese who have obtained Chinese ID cards, both MAC and the National Immigration Agency will review such cases, said Liu.
Liu said that approximately 40 individuals are now under investigation for their statements. If necessary, they will be summoned for questioning.
When asked whether the 14 people whose household registrations were revoked included Huang, Liu said the information is private.
In addition, MAC Minister Chiu Chui-cheng (邱垂正) said on Friday that Huang is an entertainer with a career in China, whose remarks have caused criticism in Taiwan. As for whether Huang has worked with the Chinese Communist Party, government, or military, Chiu said MAC will investigate the matter.
