TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy arrived in Taiwan on Wednesday to meet President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and the private sector to discuss trade.
The Alaskan delegation will visit Taiwan for three days to discuss bilateral trade cooperation, per CNA. This marks the Alaskan governor’s first trip to Taiwan since taking office in 2018.
The foreign ministry said Taiwan is Alaska's fourth largest market in Asia. In 1988, Taiwan and Alaska established a sister relationship, with economic cooperation in energy, agriculture, fisheries, mining, and tourism.
The delegation met with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) and Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) on Wednesday. The governor will also speak with private sector representatives to explore further trade opportunities.
On Thursday, the delegation will attend the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan’s Hsieh Nien Fan (謝年飯) annual banquet for the international business community.
