TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s defense ministry will deepen military exchanges with the US, according to its annual report.
Defense Minister Wellington Koo (顧立雄) presented the 2025 Quadrennial Defense Review to the Legislative Yuan on Wednesday, per CNA. The report said Taiwan plans to gradually deepen military exchanges with the US by conducting high-level strategic dialogues, drill observations, tabletop exercises, and intelligence sharing, Reuters reported.
The report said Taiwan would enhance the interoperability between its armed forces and the US. Reaffirming the US as an “important strategic partner,” it said Taiwan would build on its existing “close military exchanges and cooperation” with the US to push for more cooperation.
According to the report, the exchanges would help Taiwan strengthen its long-range precision strikes, battlefield command, surveillance and reconnaissance, and other areas.
Speaking to reporters about the report on Wednesday, Koo said the Han Kuang 41 military exercise is based on the scenario of a potential PLA attack on Taiwan in 2027. He said the warning time for a Chinese invasion has been shortened as the time required to transition from drills to combat may not be as long as previously thought.
