TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s digital ministry said police are investigating a bomb threat it had received online on Tuesday.
Police found no suspicious items at the ministry’s office near Taipei’s Xiaonanmen MRT station after the ministry reported the threat, per CNA. The ministry said it notified police immediately after receiving the threat via an online public opinion form.
LTN reported that a ministry source said security staff have been asked to report suspicious people visiting its offices. A police investigation into the threat is ongoing.
Last March, the digital ministry was shot at by a man with a rifle and a handgun shouting anti-government slogans. The gunman was sentenced to 10 months in prison and a fine in December.
The digital ministry also faces frequent cyber attacks. According to the National Security Bureau, Taiwan faced an average of 2.4 million cyberattacks per day in 2024.
