TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Tourism Administration announced on Monday that Taiwan is set to host the inaugural World Bird Fair.
Conservation representatives from over 25 countries will be invited, CNA reported. The expo will run from Sept. 19-23 in Taichung City and features a forum on global birdwatching. The event aims to promote Taiwan’s ecotourism.
The Tourism Administration said that from Sept. 22-23, participants will be brought to Taichung's Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area, a premier birdwatching destination.
Taiwan has recorded 691 bird species, including 32 endemic species and 52 subspecies, according to the World Bird Fair website.
Tourism Administration Director-General Chou Yung-hui (周永暉) said ecotourism has been the fastest-recovering and most rapidly growing sector in global travel after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The World Bird Fair is organized by the NGO World Birdfairs Council, which promotes global bird conservation and birdwatching ecotourism.
