TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The National Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology will sign a drone cooperation MOU with National Taiwan University, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, and National Formosa University on Wednesday to integrate industry, academia, and research capabilities.
The agreement marks a significant milestone for Taiwan's UAV industry, NCSIST said, as future research will accelerate advancements in UAV technology, and talent cultivation will meet industry demands and drive local economic growth, Liberty Times reported. The high consumption rate of UAVs makes autonomous production capabilities even more crucial, NCSIST said.
Taiwan plans to establish a second UAV center in Chiayi. This new center, along with the Asia UAV Innovation Center and Minxiong Aerospace Industrial Park, will further develop industrial clustering and solidify Chiayi as a drone industry hub.
Once completed, the Minxiong Aerospace Industrial Park will allow private companies to expand their manufacturing facilities and provide Original Design Manufacturer and Original Equipment Manufacturer expertise, per Liberty Times. By integrating military, civilian, and academic research resources, the park aims to enhance the development capacity of Taiwan's UAV industry.
Deputy Premier Cheng Li-chun (鄭麗君) outlined five strategies on Saturday to establish a democratic drone supply chain in Taiwan. She emphasized that geopolitical shifts have highlighted the need for secure and trustworthy supply chains, presenting a unique opportunity for Taiwan’s drone industry.
