TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Colder temperatures are forecast across the country and there is a final chance of catching snowfall this season at high altitudes.
Meteorologist Daniel Wu (吳德榮) said a cold front is lingering near the north coast of Taiwan, while the south remains warm. On Friday, he said there is a chance of localized showers or thunderstorms, and fog is likely to form in the west and the Kinmen-Matsu area.
Wu added that localized showers or thunderstorms are expected this weekend. Starting Saturday night, cold air from the north will cause a sharp drop in temperatures.
Low temperatures across Taiwan are estimated to range from 9 C to 12 C, with the mercury in some low-lying areas dropping to around 5 C.
Wu forecast that from Monday there would be clear skies. During the daytime from Monday to Thursday, temperatures will be warm, but at night it could be chilly.
Due to abundant atmospheric moisture, meteorologist Lin Te-en (林得恩) predicted there is a chance of light and brief snowfall on mountains above 3,000 meters from Sunday to Monday. Lin said those planning snow-watching activities should be cautious of icy roads and frost in mountainous areas.
