TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Chinese nationals affiliated with the united front will be prohibited from entering Taiwan.
On Thursday, President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) outlined a strategy to counter Beijing's united front infiltration of Taiwanese society through cross-strait exchanges. Lai said such activities would be barred from the country.
Mainland Affairs Council Spokesperson Liang Wen-chieh (梁文傑) said Thursday the council often encounters applications for religious or cultural exchanges. However, Liang said some visiting groups include individuals with united front ties. The united front is a group of people or organizations promoting the Chinese Communist Party's strategies.
Liang said these groups plan to engage in collusion after completing their exchange events in Taiwan. For these applications, Liang said the council will take a more cautious approach.
Liang said MAC welcomes scholars from Chinese think tanks to Taiwan for academic exchanges, especially those in the fields of politics or cross-strait relations. However, Liang said such exchanges still have boundaries.
The spokesperson said openly calling for the "reunification of Taiwan by force" while in Taiwan will not be allowed.
