TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Two Chinese influencers married to Taiwanese citizens are under investigation by the National Immigration Agency for allegedly calling for Taiwan's annexation by China.
Taiwan's immigration agency on Tuesday revoked the dependent-based residence permit for Chinese influencer Liu Zhenya (劉振亞) after she advocated on social media for the use of military force to annex Taiwan. On Thursday, two other Chinese influencers, Enqi (恩綺) and Xiaowei (小微), were also reported for similar incidents, per CNA.
The NIA said it had received reports that Liu had “openly advocated for unification through military force" with Taiwan on her social media accounts. The agency said that while it respects freedom of speech, Liu's remarks posed a risk to national security and social stability and revoked her residence permit for breaching the Cross-Strait Act.
Similarly, Chinese spouses Enqi and Xiaowei were involved in related incidents. Enqi spread pro-China reunification remarks on her Douyin account, claiming the "reunification of the motherland is unstoppable." Xiaowei also posted content on Douyin, waving the Chinese national flag and declaring that "Taiwan is part of China."
Both were reported to the NIA and other relevant authorities. Both Enqi and Xiaowei were notified to attend interviews at the NIA to present their statements.
Enqi has already completed her interview, and the NIA is conducting an investigation and consulting with relevant agencies to discuss further actions. As for Xiaowei, the NIA has issued an interview notice.
