TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Namasia Firefly Season and peach festival will be held from March 21 to April 27 on the mountain trails in Kaohsiung's Namasia District.
The mountain forest, known as "the dwelling place of immortals," is a popular firefly viewing spot, per CNA. Each year, more than 20 species of fireflies emerge along mountain trails from March to April, followed by the peak peach season from April to June.
The city government held a press conference Wednesday for the event. Indigenous performers sang and danced to pray for its success.
During the event, an Indigenous-themed market will be held along the firefly-viewing mountain trails every Friday and weekend. Additionally, the only 7-Eleven store in the district will host four Indigenous song and dance performances.
Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) urged the public to book firefly viewing tours early. The city will also host the National Indigenous Games from March 21-24.
The Namasia District Office said it partnered with Taiwan's bus ticketing platform, the TBS app, to offer half-day, one-day, and two-day tour packages. Visitors will use the app for ticket verification upon entry.
The office also teamed up with United Highway Bus Company to launch a firefly viewing project, adding new service points at the Kaohsiung and Tainan transfer stations. A free shuttle bus service will be provided on weekends and during the Tomb Sweeping Festival holiday.
The office added that each firefly viewing ticket costs NT$250 (US$8.33). Visitors 65 and older can enter free. Children 12 and under can also join for free during the Tomb Sweeping Festival holiday, which coincides with Children's Day.
