TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Water Resources Agency said Monday that water supply to Taiwan’s semiconductor industry was stable.
The WRA held a briefing on Monday to discuss water conditions and the progress of major water resource projects per CNA. Industry representatives including TSMC, Micron, and UMC were present, per a press release.
The agency explained that thanks to rainfall last year, along with tight water management, Taiwan’s water conditions remain stable. Major reservoirs report storage levels between 50% and 90%, ensuring a steady supply for residential, industrial, and agricultural needs.
It added that Taiwan’s three major science parks in Hsinchu, Taichung, and Tainan have an approved daily water allocation of 1.31 million metric tons, but only use 630,000 tons per day. The surplus is used for development projects.
Fang Han-wen (房漢文), who chairs the Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association’s Environment, Safety and Health Committee, praised the government’s water management efforts and stressed that water security strengthens Taiwan’s industrial development.
Since 2015, the WRA has established a platform with semiconductor companies and science park management bureaus to support Taiwan’s semiconductor and high-tech industries. Meetings are held to inform the sector about water conditions and government projects.
