TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) set a new all-time revenue record for February.
TSMC reported NT$260.09 billion (US$7.91 billion) in revenue last month, marking a 43.1% year-over-year increase despite an 11.3% decline from January, CNA reported. While it was a five-month low, it still set a record high for February.
For the first two months of the year, TSMC’s total revenue reached NT$553.3 billion, a 39.2% increase compared to the same period last year.
Analysts attributed February’s month-over-month decline to fewer working days but noted that strong demand for AI chips drove the year-over-year growth.
TSMC previously estimated that the magnitude 6.4 earthquake on Jan. 21 and subsequent aftershocks affected a certain number of wafers in production. As a result, the company expects first-quarter revenue to be closer to the lower end of its previous guidance range of US$25 billion to US$25.8 billion.
Given TSMC’s assumed NT$32.8 per US$1 exchange rate for the first quarter, the market projects that March revenue could rebound to over NT$266.7 billion.
TSMC estimates that after insurance claims, earthquake-related losses for the first quarter will total approximately NT$5.3 billion. The company expects a gross margin of 57% to 59% and forecasts full-year US dollar revenue growth of 24% to 26%.
