TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. plans to recruit 8,000 new employees in Taiwan during the year, reports said Saturday.
The global computer chip manufacturer announced its intentions as it was taking part in a job fair on the campus of National Taiwan University in Taipei. However, the event was only the first of 19 at colleges across the country during the coming month, per CNA.
TSMC offered salaries of NT$2.2 million (US$66,980) per year to engineers with a master’s degree. In addition to the job fairs, there were also plans for five online information sessions.
While most interest went to graduates from study areas ranging from electronics to accountancy and business management, students of languages like English and Japanese also have a future with the company. The reason is the globalization of TSMC’s business, with new fabs in the US, Japan, and Germany.
The recruits will work at plants in Taiwan, including Hsinchu, Taoyuan, Miaoli, Taichung, Chiayi, Tainan, and Kaohsiung. A separate program encourages students to apply for summer intern jobs before May 5.
The internships will help acquaint youths with the TSMC working environment, while supplying them with practical experience preparing them for future full-time jobs.
