TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The National Palace Museum’s artifacts will embark on their first exhibition in Penghu in May.
Penghu County Government said it is working with the museum to present its “Pearl of the Maritime Era: National Treasures Gather in Penghu” exhibition, per a press release. The exhibition will be held at the Penghu Living Museum with general admission at NT$80 (US$2.40) while Penghu residents can enter for free, per CNA.
Penghu County Magistrate Chen Kuang-fu (陳光復) said at the signing ceremony on Thursday that Penghu has historically been a key hub in East Asian maritime trade, with a rich cultural and historical heritage.
This special exhibition will not only showcase the National Palace Museum’s treasures but also integrate Penghu’s archaeological relics and historical artifacts from the Age of Exploration. The event is a cultural milestone and a step in promoting cultural tourism in Penghu, Chen explained.
National Palace Museum Director Hsiao Tsung-huang (蕭宗煌) pointed out that this year marks the museum’s 100th anniversary, and the 60th anniversary of its Taipei Waishuangxi branch in Shilin District.
The exhibition will last from May 17 to Aug. 17, opening Friday to Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will also feature cultural lectures, guided tours, and workshops.
