TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Kinmen County Commissioner Chen Fu-hai (陳福海) canceled a tour of temples in China because he was too late in reporting his plans to the National Immigration Agency, reports said Thursday.
Chen had planned to leave on Thursday but failed to notify the agency three working days in advance. Notification is required for the leaders of the island counties of Kinmen, Lienchiang, and Penghu, according to the regulations governing trips to China by government officials, per CNA.
The Taiwan People’s Party politician wanted to lead a delegation from Kinmen to visit the Thean Hou Temple in Quanzhou and the Mazu Temple on the island of Meizhou, both in the Chinese province of Fujian.
The Kinmen County Government reportedly put in an emergency request for approval, but the immigration agency said the trip could not be considered an emergency. The agency concluded that it could not approve Chen’s travel plans.
The county government said it respected the decision, and Chen canceled his trip.
