TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Navy held a training commencement ceremony at Zuoying Naval Base on Wednesday, in preparation for the Dunmu Goodwill Fleet’s month-long voyage.
Vice Admiral Wu Li-ping (吳立平), commander of the Navy Fleet Command, conducted an inspection of the fleet’s participating vessels, including the Cheng Kung-class frigate Cheng Ho, Kang Ding-class frigate Wu Chang, and the Pan Shi-class fast combat support ship Pan Shi, Liberty Times reported.
Wu also inspected the units participating in ceremonial performances during the voyage, including the Navy band, honor guard, and judo team.
In a speech, Wu said the Dunmu Goodwill Fleet serves as a crucial opportunity to demonstrate the professionalism and combat readiness of Taiwan’s Armed Forces. He said the spirit of “working together in the same boat” and deep camaraderie are key to the success of the fleet’s mission.
The voyage is expected to begin at the end of March or early April. The ships will visit Taiwan’s diplomatic allies and provide open-sea training for newly enlisted sailors and non-commissioned officers.
Before leaving, the fleet will embark on a national tour, stopping at seven ports including Kaohsiung, Anping, Magong, Taichung, Keelung, Suao, and Hualien.
