TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwanese airlines could soon add Venice to Rome and Milan as Italian destinations thanks to a revised air transport agreement, reports said Wednesday.
The number of weekly passenger flights between Taiwan and Italy would increase from seven to 19. The changes were included in the new deal signed by Civil Aviation Administration Director General Ho Shu-ping (何淑萍) and Italian Civil Aviation Authority President Pierluigi Umberto Di Palma.
Out of the three existing cargo flights per week, two would now enjoy fifth freedom rights, meaning they could land at other airports on the way to take on extra freight to their end destination in Italy or Taiwan, per CNA.
At present, China Airlines operates three flights a week to Rome, and EVA Air runs four a week to Milan. Their occupancy rate averaged 81% last year, with the number of travelers between Taiwan and Italy rising 20% from 2023.
