TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — National Chung Hsing University will help India improve smart tea farming technologies and production.
National Chung Hsing University Agronomy Professor Kuo Bo-jein (郭寶錚) and Assistant Professor Chen Shu-yun (鄭舒允) led a delegation to Assam Agricultural University and the Tocklai Tea Research Institute in India. The university also signed memoranda of understanding with the Tocklai Tea Research Institute in India, per CNA.
The delegation participated in the Assam 2.0 forum, where they showcased smart cultivation and detection systems. It also promoted a tea tree diagnostic system developed by the university's agriculture research center and sought potential partners at the event.
Chen said they will collaborate with students and researchers from Assam Agricultural University and use the systems they have developed to assist tea plantations in India.
Kuo said climate change has affected the yield and quality of tea leaves. To help farmers ensure stable tea production, he said they will refine the technologies and systems developed.
Kuo hopes to position Taiwan as a research and development hub for smart agriculture to bring its technologies and models to tea plantations in India and promote them globally.
Yang Lung-jieh (楊龍杰), an official with the Taipei Representative Office in India, accompanied the delegation. He hoped that research institutions in Taiwan and India would continue to deepen exchanges.
The university received funding from the National Science and Technology Council to develop smart agriculture technologies to address climate change and promote energy conservation. The initiative also integrates experts from agriculture, law, electronics, and information technology.
