TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Gender Equality Week will gather over 40 Taiwanese NGOs and local government representatives to showcase the nation’s gender equality advocacy and policy implementation.
The event will feature around 60 delegates with 32 parallel meetings on gender equality during the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) conference, which takes place from March 10 to 21 in New York. Taiwanese civil society organizations will participate both in New York and online, sharing insights on progress and challenges, per CNA and TGEW.
One event highlight is the “Evolving Gender Equality” exhibition, which traces Taiwan’s progress in gender mainstreaming from the 1980s to the present. The exhibition will showcase women's resilience and the ongoing pursuit of equality, with collaborative works reflecting Taiwan’s commitment to freedom, diversity, and gender inclusivity.
This year’s activities align with the CSW conference’s focus on the “Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action,” adopted during the UN’s Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995. Created with input from around 40,000 participants across 189 countries, this framework remains one of the most comprehensive plans for achieving global gender equality and advancing women’s rights.
As part of Taiwan Gender Equality Week, 2019 International Olympic Committee Women and Sport Awards World Trophy winner Liu Po-chun (劉柏君) will discuss her experiences and Taiwan’s role in shaping the future of gender equality. Egret Foundation Chair Lu Chia-hui (盧佳慧) will also host a multimedia piano concert highlighting Taiwanese women’s contributions to environmental protection, ethnic inclusion, and peace initiatives.
