TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan's three telecom companies, Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, and FarEasTone, are attending the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from Monday through Thursday, CNA reported.
This year’s event, with the theme "Converge. Connect. Create," has attracted more than 2,800 exhibitors. It showcases the latest technology from major global brands and features 48 keynote speakers.
Chunghwa Telecom Chair Alex Chien (簡志誠) is leading the company at the event. Its booth highlights 5G applications and focuses on using AI for network management and improving network performance in high-traffic areas.
Chunghwa Telecom said it teamed up with Ericsson to create a digital twin of a base station using drones and 3D modeling. The technology allows base stations to adjust network resources automatically and increase network capacity by nearly 14%.
Ericsson is also showcasing its collaboration with Chunghwa Telecom and Singtel, offering customers on-demand network services. The technology was used during Tainan's 400th Anniversary Metaverse Marathon, where 3D modeling allowed runners to virtually explore city landmarks.
Chunghwa Telecom also partnered with Nokia on 5G-Advanced technology. By integrating Nokia's AirScale and MantaRay solutions, it achieved up to 30% energy savings and a 5G download speed of 2.34 gigabits per second.
FarEasTone and Ericsson signed a memorandum of understanding Monday to collaborate on developing beyond 5G technologies.
The companies are also showcasing their 5G-Advanced network connection service, which they said was deployed in December at the Taipei Dome. The technology provides efficient mobile network services to 5G users during large-scale events.
Taiwan Mobile added that it will sign a partnership agreement with Nokia during the exhibition. The companies will focus on AI-driven network applications, 5G smart services, energy saving, and equipment upgrades.
